Over the weekend, I went down with a few friends to attend the Singapore Dragon Boat Festival held at Bedok Reservoir ; we were there to watch the annual Prime-Minister’s Cup (PM Cup) Race. Not wanting to turn up empty-handed, I baked some cupcakes and decorated them with simple fondant pieces to give away to some of the rowers.
The PM Cup race is a highlight in the local dragon boat calendar and is modelled after the Oxford-Cambridge rowing race in the United Kingdom. It is contested between the four local universities in Singapore – NUS, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University and Singapore Institute of Management – over a racing distance of 1000m.
Guess you can tell which Universities I was rooting for! 😉
The day had a bittersweet end, for me at least. NUS Ladies won the race with SIM Ladies coming in second. It was a tough race and the competition; the love for the fight, will always remind me why I chose to spend one year, training under the hot, blistering sun.
Congratulations NUS! 🙂
